EPRDF's New Generation


The ruling party, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), elected Hailemariam Desalegn as the new chairman of EPRDF, who will automatically be the Prime Minister. The council also elected Demeke Mekonen chairman of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) as vice chairman of EPRDF. EPRDF started its regular meeting on Friday 14, September 2012, by conducting a minute of silence commemorating the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. The meeting completed on Saturday September 15 elects its chairperson and his deputy.

EPRDF Council meeting Begins


A two-day EPRDF Council meeting began today (September 14th) here in Addis Ababa. The EPRDF secretariat announced that the 180 member council will agree on a chairman and deputy-chairman for the Front following the death of Prime Minster Meles Zenawi It is also expected to decide on a number of related matters.

FEACC probing "possible malpractice" in condo allotment


The Addis Ababa city Government is working closely with the Federal Ethics and anti-Corruption Commission to probe into a faulty process in the transfer of the city’s burgeoning condominium housing projects sources told Capital. An Addis Ababa City official who preferred anonymity said that the FEACC has been watching the transfer process closely.

High quality affordable housing program launches


The Addis Ababa City Administration is to launch registration for a new affordable housing scheme shortly. The new housing is for citizens with middle incomes who can make a down payment of 40% of the home price before acquiring their house and the remaining 60% within a specific period that will be disclosed by the administration when the project is launched.

The Council of Ministers agrees the budget for 2005EC


The Council of Ministers this week agreed to the Federal Government budget for the 2005 Ethiopian fiscal year (2012-2013). At 137.8 billion birr it is 20 billion birr more than last year¡¯s Federal Government budget.

Ethiopian military retires 13 generals, 300 senior officers


The Ethiopian military has retired over three hundred senior officers including thirteen generals as part of a leadership succession plan, the Minister of National Defense said on Tuesday. This is a first major shakeup at the nation’s powerful organ first setup by rebel militants in 1991 following the overthrow of a brutal communist regime.
