The 'Diasporas for Development Initiative' is a public private partnership generously supported by USAID and Accenture LLP, implemented by Cuso International. The 'Diasporas for Development Initiative' (DfD) is a two year pilot project designed to address the challenge of human resource gaps in developing countries, often due to 'brain drain,' by engaging US-based diaspora volunteers to share their skills with Cuso International's local program partners.

This week, a major international NGO, Oxfam UK, launched a new initiative to try and shift away the continuing focus on depressing images of Africa to take a more positive look at the continent’s progress. Oxfam is a leading international charity and has itself done much to reinforce the depressing stereotypes of Africa, of famine, war, poverty which have been notably underlined by such organizations as Live Aid and Band Aid.

Registration began on Thursday last week (September 13th) for the forthcoming elections for the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council. Polling day is October 7th.

The Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church passed a decision to bring down the statue of the Patriarch in front of the Bole Medhanialem Church, few months after it was erected. The statue that was built to commemorate the Patriarch’s 18th year of papacy had been a subject of controversy among the followers of the orthodox religion.
