Longest ever bridge in Ethiopia under construction

The longest ever bridge in Ethiopia under construction over the Blue Nile River along the 136-km Assossa-Sherkole road is presently well in progress, the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) disclosed.
The construction of the 365-meter bridge and the Assossa-Sherkole road, which is part of the Abay-Guba Road Project, has been well underway at a cost of 440 million Birr, information and public relations service head with the authority, Samson Wondimu said.
The new bridge, which has a width of 10-meter and height of 22-meters, will be supported by 11 pillars.
The Ethiopian government and the International Development Association (IDA), an affiliate office of the World Bank, cover the cost of the construction project, the head said.
The construction of the new road will be connecting the Benishangul Gumuz and the Amhara regional states with the shortest line possible. According to the head, the road project under construction by Chinese Construction Company is expected to be completed early next year.
